Steady Flame Meditation

When things feel still, or slow-moving, a busy or anxious mind may try to fill the space with doubt, force, or pushing to regain control by acting. But what if we could find strength and clarity in stillness? This meditation can be used in a multitude of ways, helping to slow down fast-paced thoughts, and even those who struggle with an inner critic, to soften into trust.

  1. Find a comfortable seat on a cushion, mat, or chair, or allow yourself to lie down—without falling asleep. 2. Take a few breaths, and begin to gently ground into your being.

  1. Take another deep breath in through your nose, then slowly exhale through your mouth.

  1. Begin to visualize a calm, steady flame within—unwavering, constant, beaming, and full of quiet strength.

  1. If thoughts of doubt or urgency arise, acknowledge them without judgment. Imagine these thoughts as the wind, trying to blow out the flame. But this flame is steady. It does not flicker. It does not waver.

  1. Invite in trust. Watch as the thoughts dissolve into the flame, as if they are burned before even reaching it.

  1. Silently or aloud, repeat the affirmation: "I am strong in my stillness. I trust my journey."

  1. With each breath, soften into stillness. Notice if your mind resists—if the inner critic, judge, or planner speaks. Instead of engaging, simply observe, and guide your attention back to your breath.

  1. With each inhale, invite in trust. With each exhale, let go of the pressure to fix, do, label, move, or push.

  1. Sit with this quiet strength for a few more moments.

When you're ready, take a gentle breath in, wiggle your fingers or toes, and slowly bring your awareness back to the present.

May we all find the strength to trust, to pause, and to grow in ways unseen. This meditation was transmuted through the heart and created by Wildflower Wellness. Please credit if you share.
